Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of Carte, an iOS application produced by Appé Latte. By downloading or using Carte you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Licence

Appé Latte grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use Carte on Apple devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app.

Your account

You need an account to use Carte. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for the activity on your account.

Your content

Your cards and contacts are yours. Because they are encrypted on your device with a key we do not hold, we cannot access, moderate, restore or recover them. You are responsible for keeping a backup and for setting a recovery passphrase if you want one.

If you lose your key and your recovery passphrase, your data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. This is a consequence of the encryption, not an oversight.

Connected accounts

Carte can connect to services you already use — Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Calendly and others — so that meetings you already have can appear beside the people you already know. Connecting is optional, and Carte works without it.

You may only connect an account you are entitled to use, and your use of each service remains governed by that service’s own terms. If a provider withdraws or changes access, the corresponding feature may stop working through no fault of either of us.

A calendar invitation names other people. When you connect a calendar you are asking Carte to read those names on your device so it can tell you who you are meeting. Carte does not send them to us, and it does not contact anyone on your behalf. You remain responsible for how you use what you learn — the acceptable-use terms below apply to contact details obtained this way exactly as they do to a card handed to you.

You can disconnect any source at any time in Settings → Sources, which deletes the stored access token and removes that source’s events from the app.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Carte to:

impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation;
collect or share contact details without the other person’s consent, including details Carte surfaces from a connected calendar;
send unsolicited bulk messages to contacts collected through the app;
break any applicable law, including data protection law.

Carte Pro subscription

Carte is free to use. Carte Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks multiple cards and personas, card designs, unlimited card scanning, and card view analytics.

Title: Carte Pro.
Length: offered as a monthly or an annual subscription. The exact duration and price of each option are shown in the app before you purchase, in your local currency.
Price: shown on the subscription screen in the app and confirmed by Apple at the point of purchase.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
Renewal: the subscription renews automatically for the same period unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the current period.
Managing and cancelling: you can manage or cancel in your Apple Account settings after purchase. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Free trials: where a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited if you buy a subscription during the trial.

Purchases are processed by Apple, and refunds are handled by Apple under the App Store Terms of Service. We cannot issue refunds directly.

Availability and changes

We may add, change or withdraw features. If we make a change that materially reduces what a paid subscription provides, you may cancel and seek a refund from Apple.

Disclaimer

Carte is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Appé Latte is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data or profits, arising from your use of Carte. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim.

Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no responsibility for the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. Any claim relating to the app should be directed to Appé Latte, not Apple.

Termination

You may stop using Carte at any time and delete your account from within the app. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, without regard to its conflict of law rules.
